Summer Transitions…

Hey all. Camp is over in 6 days and I’m having mixed emotions about the fast-approaching final day. On the one hand, I am beyond excited to head back home. Despite how much fun I’ve had these past 7 weeks, I’ve missed my family and my friends immensely this summer and the end of camp means I get to see all those people who I’ve been away from. On the other hand, however, this very well may be my last summer here at camp and that thought is a difficult one to contemplate. I’ve spent 10 of my last 11 summers on the shores of Moose Pond, and the relationships I’ve formed and life lessons I’ve learned here will stay with me forever. I suppose I will never really leave this place in spirit, but physically driving out on the camp road in a week is certainly going to be a bittersweet feeling.

There will be plenty of time for reflection in the next few weeks and months. The upcoming weeks will also be busy with planning for study abroad and the coming year at Bates. More on that soon. As for now, I’m off to go enjoy the rest of the time I have at camp. Until next time…

The Beauty of Maine…

Hey all. Just checking in from my camp for a quick update. After a rainy few weeks, the sun has finally begun to shine and all the activities are now in full swing. The campers have been swimming, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, climbing and enjoying many field sports. It’s great teaching soccer and baseball while basking in the warm summer sun and everyone is now in much higher spirits. It’s hard to believe camp is nearly half over!

Rather than try to explain Maine summer weather, I figured a visual representation would be more appealing. Notice the beautiful sunset in the left of the picture and the ominous storm clouds forming on the right-hand side of the picture. Until next time…

Campers soon to arrive…

Hey all. Orientation and camp training came to an end today and tomorrow the campers will arrive. The last couple of days were filled with more physical work and staff training to prepare us counselors how to deal with the campers in all situations.

I am very excited for the campers to come. It has been fun hanging out with all the counselors but it will be even more fun once the campers arrive and activitiy teaching begins. Once the kids arrive the dining hall here is going to get kind of wild… much like the dining hall at Bates around lunch time. I will keep you all posted of the happenings here at camp. Hope everyone is enjoying summer! Until next time…
